PRETORIA – Three men; Enock Mavutha (33), Cedric Chimwala (33) and David Maila (46) were arrested for possession of suspected stolen vehicle in Germiston on 21 August 2022.
A multi-disciplinary team which consisted of the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section, Tracker Connect, SAPS Ekurhuleni Crime Intelligence, Vision Tactical, Badboyz Security Group, ICB-Insurance Crime and FRS Falcon Risk Solutions received information about a group of men who are allegedly changing identity/ownership of stolen vehicles to be transported outside the country.
The team proceeded to the residential premises in Elsburg in Germiston where three men were found in the garage tampering with a stolen Toyota Fortuner. They were arrested and a number of different vehicle documents, cellphones as well as different registration plates were seized.
An investigation revealed that the Fortuner was destined for Zimbabwe and it was stolen in Edenvale this month. The suspects appeared at the Germiston Magistrates’ Court on 22 August 2022 where Chimwala and Maila were each released on R2000-00 bail. The matter was remanded to 30 August 2022 and Mavutha remains in custody. The investigation is continuing.
